Case management
Trafficking survivors and youth at-risk of exploitation often face barriers to accessing much need services, from housing to medical needs and more. Case managers provide customized assistance, referrals, appointment accompaniments, and other direct services to assist clients while they’re receiving services and working toward achieving their goals.
Counseling
Our counselors are sensitive to the unique needs of survivors of trafficking, and are trained in a range of evidenced-based trauma-focused therapies to help clients heal.
EMPOWER Center
The EMPOWER Center is a multi-service, walk-in center designed to support individuals who have been in or are currently in the sex trade and survivors of sexual violence including assault and female genital mutilation.
As the first of its kind in the US, the EMPOWER Center functions as a “one-stop shop” where individuals can easily access free, high-quality, and trauma-informed medical, mental health, legal, counseling, and employment services, as well as intensive case management.
The EMPOWER Center is a collaboration between Sanctuary for Families and NYC Health + Hospitals – Gouverneur.

Legal services
Our attorneys provide comprehensive, trauma-informed legal representation for U.S. citizen and foreign-born survivors of trafficking. Our legal practice includes immigration law and criminal justice advocacy, including vacatur relief, a measure that helps survivors to clear certain criminal convictions from their record.
Specialized services for Orthodox and formerly Orthodox Jewish youth
For Orthodox or formally Orthodox Jewish youth and young adults who have either been sexually exploited or are at high risk of victimization, culturally-sensitive support services are few and far between. Many of those seeking help hail from the Ultra-Orthodox or Israeli communities, but are estranged from their families and communities or have experienced childhood abuse.
Sanctuary for Families offers counseling, legal representation and advocacy, and job training to Orthodox and formally Orthodox Jewish survivors or youth at risk of exploitation through the Mishkan Project. In addition to culturally-sensitive counseling, legal services, career training, and case management, the Mishkan Project engages in extensive awareness building outreach, with a broad view toward raising consciousness about the vulnerabilities abused youth, particularly girls and young women, face in various Jewish communities.
Specialized services for youth & young survivors
Sanctuary provides youth and young adults ages 11-18 who are at risk of, have experienced, or are being trafficked with the support they need to build safe and healthy lives free from violence. Our programming focuses on homeless, foster care, LGBTQ+, and system impacted youth.
Our staff provide individual counseling, group counseling, case consultation, and referrals. Services are available in English and Spanish.
Additional programming includes Muay Thai (boxing) classes, art workshops, yoga, creative writing, and cooking & nutrition groups.
