Why Sanctuary for Families

Since our founding in 1984, Sanctuary for Families has grown to become New York’s leading service provider and advocate for survivors of gender-based violence operating in all five boroughs of New York City.

What started as a small group of volunteers, has expanded today to a diverse team of over 200 compassionate, creative, and mission-driven attorneys, social workers, shelter aides, economic empowerment specialists, administrators, data specialists, and more, all of whom work to provide life-saving services to thousands of adult and child gender violence survivors every year.

Since joining Sanctuary as the Executive Director in 2014, I have been continuously impressed by the expertise of our staff and the care and dedication they demonstrate every day.
