When Nadia fled her abusive husband with her two young children — just 2 years and 8 months old — she arrived in New York City in the middle of the night, exhausted, terrified, and with nowhere to go.
Her husband’s violence had escalated to the point of brutal beatings and terrifying acts of control.
Desperate to protect her children, Nadia fled to a shelter upstate, but it was full. Staff there placed her and her babies on a bus bound for New York City, where she eventually found Sanctuary for Families.
