How we Responded
Legal Support & Representation
Sanctuary’s Legal Center expanded its live helpline, enabling survivors to reach attorneys immediately. In partnership with top law firms, we have ensured survivors’ access to virtual court by training and supervising pro bono attorneys who provide legal advocacy and representation to survivors seeking orders of protection.
Economic Empowerment
Our Economic Empowerment Program (EEP) purchased and delivered laptops and hotspots to program participants, keeping them on track in their training program and ensuring their ability to develop the skills necessary to obtain living-wage and career-track jobs.
Counseling & Crisis Support
Our clinical team of 90 staff members converted Sanctuary’s counseling services to telephone and video platforms, so that they could continue to focus on implementing evidence-based interventions that address the emotional needs of adults and children and repair the family bonds in the wake of abuse.
Shelter & Housing Advocacy
Our five shelters, which offer a confidential, safe and nurturing community to 200 adults and children each night, remained continuously open and full to capacity.
Emergency Financial Assistance
With 82% of the survivors we serve reporting a household income of $20,000 before the pandemic, the economic fallout has had devastating effects. Sanctuary has expanded our direct cash assistance program, distributing over $200,000 to over 400 families to date for emergency food, supplies, rent, medicine, clothing, and more.
Food, PPE, Clothing & More
When the City went into lockdown, our volunteers, corporate partners and donors mobilized. We stocked our shelters with additional food, PPE, and other essentials so residents could stay inside. Our volunteers virtually tutored children and helped us provide 600 children with school supplies and holiday gifts.
Donate to Ensure Services for Survivors in 2021 and Beyond
Last year Sanctuary helped nearly 9,000 adults and children along their paths to safety and stability, advocated for legislation that protects survivors, and empowered communities across the city to prevent abuse and exploitation through outreach and training. Join us as we build a world in which freedom from gender violence is a basic human right.
